About two million people in Mozambique’s two most populous provinces, Zambezia and Nampula, are to benefit from clean drinking water, with the opening of 1,600 new water sources, 800 in each province. The Mozambican government signed a financing agreement with the Export-Import (Exim) Bank of India, at the behest of Government of India, for a Line of Credit (LOC) of US$ 20 million to finance the transfer of water drilling technology and equipment from India to Mozambique.
This is the third LOC extended by Exim Bank to Mozambique, at the behest of Government of India. The first LOC of US$ 20 million, which was extended in September 2004, was used to finance export of items including water drilling and drip irrigation equipment.
